Plant Science Department
The Department of Plant Science mission is to promote non-consumptive and sustainable use of plant resources by humans. It carries out this mission by training competent professionals and by contributing to the advancement of plant science through its research activities.
The Department focuses its efforts on pertinent disciplines and products. Its teaching and research activities notably apply to the following disciplines related to agronomy and plant biology:
- organic or ecological agriculture
- agroforestry
- basic botany (anatomy, morphology, cytology and taxonomy)
- molecular biology and plant biotechnology
- basic and applied plant ecology (wetland development and farming, development of sustainable plant production methods)
- crop protection
- phytopathology (study of plant defense mechanisms, fight pathogenic agents, develop and produce bio pesticides)
- agricultural entomology (combat crop pests, develop biological control methods, protect pollinators)
- weed science (competition studies, chemical or biological control)
- agricultural and environmental microbiology
- plant physiology (agro-environmental physiology, plant ecophysiology)
- phytochemistry
- phytogenesis
- management and production of plants and crops (grass; field crops; forage; oilseed and fiber plants; garden, vegetable and ornamental plants)
- agro-environmental toxicology
- plant and crop development, including fungi (lignocellulosic biomass recovery, waste recovery and the study of its impact on plant growth, use of nutraceutical plants and fungi)
