Making sense of the different contracts
Service or Research Contracts
A contract must be signed between parties for all research work or services provided over $10,000. Contact your research development advisor for assistance.
Method of awarding a contract
When planning a purchase of equipment in a grant application, or when a service contract is awarded, it is important to remember the following information.
- For all purchase agreements (purchase of equipment) less than $10,000, mutual gains negotiations can take place with the supplier.
- For all service contracts (professional or technical services) less than $25,000, mutual gains negotiations with the service provider can take place.
For all mutual agreements, a minimum of 2 submissions are recommended to compare prices and quality.
For all purchase agreements (purchase of equipment) between $10,000 and $100,000, a call for tender must be carried out.
To do this, you need to obtain at least 3 quotes from suppliers. The contract will be awarded to the supplier who has submitted the lowest bid or the best value with appropriate justifications.
A Université Laval buyer will guide you through the process. To learn more about the process, visit the «Qui fait quoi» of financial services.
