Plant Science Department funds
The Roger-Van den Hende Botanical Garden is located near the campus and was designed and built, at its grassroots (1966-1975), by Roger Van den Hende, ornamental horticulture professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences at Université Laval. The Roger-Van den Hende Garden Fund’s mission is to back the Roger-Van den Hende Botanical Garden in achieving its goals to:
- encourage education, research and the transfer of knowledge
- grant ornamental horticultural students, professionals, and amateurs privileged access to a green area, rich with practical information in an urban environment
This fund offers a scholarship to a graduate student at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences in a research program focusing on phytogenetic resources.
Donate to this fund
Ornamental horticulture is a key element in environmental quality and quality of life in an urban setting. The constant need to improve the quality of life in communities and urban centres requires an environmentally-friendly approach that aligns with a sustainable development of the environment. The objective of the W.H. Perron Chair in ornamental horticulture is to train ornamental horticulture specialists; offer training and continuing education courses to producers, green space managers and members of related disciplines; and carry out research on the adaptation of plants to the cold, ornamental plant crop management, disease control and pests, and other specific problems related to the discipline.
Animal Science Department Funds
This fund awards an annual excellence scholarship to an agronomy student with an outstanding academic record and who has demonstrated a strong interest in animal production.
This fund is the FSAA's general fund. Its goal is to promote and provide financial support for university research and teaching in the various fields associated with the Faculty. The fund awards annual scholarships to doctoral and post-doctoral students in animal science.
Food Science Department Funds
The François-Bourgeois fund was created to promote, develop and provide financial support to food science and engineering.
Mr. Bourgeois was born on October 1, 1917, in Saint-Célestin, Quebec, near the town of Nicolet. Upon completing his university studies in philosophy and theology, he won a scholarship that led him to study engineering at the University of Saskatoon.
Invited by the promoter Lionel Beaudet who had the idea of building a company to manufacture skim milk powder, a product in high demand at the end of the Second World War, Mr. Bourgeois accepted the offer in 1947. Thus began Lactantia. Its arrival was synonymous with the search for new products and the company went on to become a leader in the field.
Mr. Bourgeois, who passed away in 2001, was also a great philanthropist who supported many causes.
School of Nutrition Funds
The Public Nutrition Fund, which is part of the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, strives to:
- help reduce the prevalence and severity of major health problems associated with nutrition in the community;
- expedite the resolution of this social problem by promoting better nutrition and wellness.
In this spirit, the Fund focuses on gaining a better grasp of nutritional issues and what solving these issues at a population-based level entails. It involves making people capable of adopting healthy eating habits and having more control over their health with effective interventions aimed at either environment or behavior.
The objective of this fund is to provide financial support for the activities of the Chair in Nutrition at Université Laval. The Chair's primary objectives are to promote and provide financial support for university research and teaching in the multidisciplinary field of nutrition. The Chair also serves as a choice platform for the transfer of knowledge at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences and the Institute of Nutrition and Functional Foods (INAF).
The objective of this fund is to support the development of research and teaching activities in the consumption and sustainable development field of expertise. This expertise is at the centre of development of the consumer sciences program, which is unique to Université Laval.
The Jean-Paul Houle Fund is directed at undergraduate and graduate students and supports research in the Food Science and Nutrition Department programs, which focus on, among other things, cancer, osteoporosis and cardiovascular events.
Mr. Jean-Paul Houle spent most of his career as an agronomist in the county of the Assumption. But he was deeply convinced that diet plays a crucial role in preventing disease and that our knowledge in this area should be developed.
Incidentally, he was introduced to disease prevention through nutrition in reading a publication by professor Germain Brisson, from the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, in which he explains the role of dietary fats. His interest for preventative medicine, of which food is an integral part, never wavered right up until his death in 1999. Jean-Paul Houle helped create, thanks to a last will and testament donation, a scholarship fund: the Jean-Paul-Houle Fund.
Soil and Agri-Food Engineering Department Funds
