More than $1.5 million dedicated to research
As part of the FSAA's ceremony recognizing scholarship and grant recipients on April 8, the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences (FSAA) and Fondation Université Laval highlighted two major donations which will support research at the Faculty.
A donation of $670,000 from the late Lucius Belzile – an agronomist, researcher and FSAA graduate – was first recognized. The legacy gift will allow for the creation of a fund to support the next generation of scientists, a first in the Faculty's history. The new Fonds de la relève scientifique Famille Lucius-Belzile will provide financial support to students enrolled in graduate studies at the FSAA in the form of $10,000 scholarships.
For its part, the Farm Products Council of Canada reaffirmed its commitment to research by offering a donation of more than $900,000 to the Egg Industry Economic Research Chair. The money will allow the Chair to pursue work on the development of advanced academic knowledge regarding the egg production industry while generating information that will help grow and develop the continually evolving sector.
